Shaping the Future of French Education in Uganda
The Association of French Teachers in Uganda (APFO) is calling for passionate educators to step forward and lead the next chapter of French language education in the country. Elections for a new executive committee will take place on 24th January, 2026, marking an exciting opportunity for teachers across Uganda to shape the direction of French education for the next four years.
A New Era Begins
Since its establishment in 1975, APFO has been at the forefront of promoting French language teaching in Uganda. The current executive committee, elected on 8th December 2021, has served with dedication and now it is time to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders who will guide the association from 2026 to 2029.
Leadership Positions Available
The Electoral Commission is seeking candidates for the following positions:
National Leadership:
- President
- First Vice-President (Administration)
- Second Vice-President (Education)
- Secretary
- Deputy Secretary
- Treasurer
Regional Representatives and Deputies for: Gulu, Jinja, Kampala A, Kampala B, Kasese-Fort-Portal, Kisoro-Kabale, Lira, Masaka, Masindi-Hoima, Mbarara, Mbale, Mukono, Universities and West Nile
Who Can Run?
General Eligibility Requirements:
- Active APFO membership (dues paid and current)
- Currently teaching French in a Ugandan educational institution (primary, secondary, university, or other)
- Passionate about promoting French language education in Uganda
- Available to actively participate in APFO activities
Specific Requirements:
For Presidential and Vice-Presidential positions, candidates must have:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in French
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience
- Excellent command of both spoken and written French and English
- A clear vision for leading APFO through 2026-2029
Secretary positions require strong proficiency in French and English, plus excellent digital skills, including social media management.
The Treasurer must demonstrate high moral integrity, capability in maintaining financial records, and strong digital competency.
Regional Representatives should have deep knowledge of teacher training needs in their regions, possess excellent interpersonal skills (calm, sociable, flexible), and be available to serve their region effectively.

- Proof of 2025 APFO membership dues payment

Important Notes
Women are strongly encouraged to apply. Since its founding, APFO has championed gender parity in leadership, and the association continues to value diverse representation.
Former committee members may run again, with a constitutional limit of two terms total.
The list of selected candidates will be published two weeks prior to the election on social media and at https://apfo.ug/apfo-elections-2026, allowing sufficient time for campaigning.
Election Timeline
22nd December 2025: Publication of the call for nominations
2nd January 2026: Publication of the APFO voters’ register
5th January 2026: Deadline for submission of applications
10th January 2026: Publication of the names of shortlisted candidates
11th to 24th January 2026 at 8:00 a.m.: Online and in-person campaign if possible
24th January 2026: APFO Elections, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
